We stayed from 3 to 12 March 2011 in Deshaies in Guadeloupe. It was the second time that we take our holidays in this village of Basse Terre, our first visit was in 2001. It is a small quiet village algon the seafront, much less crowded than Gosier or Sainte Anne where tourists are crammed against each other.
For these holidays, we opted for the Piton Bungalows hotel (link) that we found on the Internet. Located within 5 km from Deshaies and about 300 meters above sea level, it is held by a team of divers led by Didier and Thierry. The bungalows are wel equipped and the hotel has a lovely pool in a very quiet place and no mosquitoes ! The welcome is really warm.
Our objective was to rest, enjoy the sun and the beach, and of course make a maximum of snorkeling. That's what we did, not to mention the delicious meals in a variety of small restaurants on the beach, with a local alcoholic drink (ti-punch), plate of fritters and grilled fish.
For restaurants, we enjoyed Chez LILINE at the beach of Grande Anse (Deshaies), Grapes clear at the beach of the same name at the entrance of Saint François, the restaurant Ti-Plage on the Petite Anse beach near Pointe Noire and the LELETTE restaurant in the village of Deshaies. The grilled lobster (29€ for 500 g) is a delight. LELETTE has also good grilled fish ! We had already gone in 2001 and is still very good ...
Regarding our webbed ballads (snorkeling), we tried many places and in particular the Grapes clear beach in St. François. We had read on various french websites that it was a good spot for snorkeling. In fact, we did not see many fish. But this beach is beautiful with a small lagoon. Then the beach restaurant serves good grilled fish !
We also made the Pointe Jarry with the Piton boat diving, coral reef, and Pigeon island called reserve Cousteau at Malendure (a little better but full of tourists) and especially the beach of Petite Anse in Pointe Noire. It is the spot that we most appreciated. We must go early in the morning, before 10 am, that is to say before the people if you want see turtles. Indeed, they are fearful and go away at the slightest sight of a snorkeler. We must swim along the rocks on your right and go to the tip. There are all kinds of tropical fish ...
It should be noted the we did a tour with Nico on the Coco Manbo boat at Sainte Rose, not far from Deshaies. The trip lasts one day (departure at 8 am and back at 17h pm) with a small group of about ten people for visiting the Mangrove, islat La Biche, islets Fajou and Caret, The Goyave river and an islet for birds. We had a good day with nice people on the boat...
