Ten years after our last stay in Martinique Island, this time we decided to go for another great week in this beautiful County. It is true that the travel is fast because there are only two hours flight from French Guyana (or 20,000 miles per person for all subscribers of the Flying Blue frequent flyer program of Air France).

As usual, we found a bungalow for rent via the Internet. In 2000, we were on the side of Tartare town in the north of the island, this time we had rented near St. Anne in the south, on the road to Cap Chevalier. The weather is beautiful at this time of year.

Our main activity during our vacation is obviously going to explore the seabed with flippers and snorkel mask. Before leaving home, we looked for on the best places on the Web and we have made all, except the snake Anse near St. Pierre that we already knew (many rolls).

If we were to rank the best places for snorkeling in Martinique, we would put in the order listed below:

1 - Anse Figuier

It's a nice little beach with a good little beach restaurant Chez “Filin" where you can taste excellent grilled fish for lunch (closed for dinner). The right place to snorkeler when one is facing the sea is "right hand". It is along the rocks up to the point and even exceed a dozen meters. At the rendezvous, trumpet fish from 40 to 50cm, sergeants majors, damsels, black mullet yellows, reds, mombin, squirrel fish, butterfly fish, triggerfish, surgeons, piglets yellow, orange sea stars, on several dives...

2 - Anse d'Arlet

This small town is really nice and has a beautiful beach. There are not many trees to rest in the shade between two walks palmate… At about 25 meters from the beach, not far from the pier on the right side, there is a large rock which emerges at low tide. We discovered a multitude of tropical fish (the same as Anse Figuier), small and big and beautiful starfish : a real pleasure !

There are many other smaller rocks around the biggest and it seems like a real aquarium. We went in the morning, it was so beautiful with a good light. In the afternoon, it was less clear because the hight tide.

3 - Anse Noire

This black sand beach is not very easy to access, a grand staircase leads us (but w'll have to go back!). Facing the sea,it is also "right hand" along the rocks to the tip. Marie-Odile has called that ballad of "Zen". Indeed, there are many bands of fishs and we are  completely surrounded floating in the middle of fishs : superb and Zen !

4 - Anse Dufour

This cove is located just off the Anse black. We were to Anse Dufour in the morning, and Anse black in the afternoon. There is a good beach restaurant at Anse Dufour where you can lunch at noon : Ti Punch (rhum with green lemon), cod fritters, grilled fish. What a beautiful life !

Facing the sea, it is also to "right hand" that he must go snorkeler. It should be noted that we could see small bands of squids in this zone.

Furthermore, we have gone to the Chevalier islet by boat from the Knight Cap (4 € per person per round trip). The place is very beautiful, beautiful beach, but there was not enough water for snorkeling around the rocks and the visibility was not very good that day.

In summary, we feasted during these holidays both with eye (snorkeling) and with the palate (grilled fish at each lunch !).
